ABSTRACT

Coastal zone of Dumai, Riau Province has many plants/industries, a port, and its activities. These activities have given contribution of pollutants in coastal water. Besides, coastal society also rely on this natural resources to fulfill their livelihood. Coastal society is a stakeholder to observe coastal water quality at their every activity around the coastal zone. The purpose of this research is to determine negative perceptions of coastal society on coastal water quality by using Likert Scale Assessment Analysis Methods. Data collecting was conducted by direct interview and FGD. The result showed that coastal society has a negative perception on the water quality (34%). It indicated that coastal water quality of Dumai is polluted, so that coastal society can not exploits the coastal and marine water resources especially for fishermen because it’s the major source of their livelihood.
